Philosophy
When Ranch owner Tanii Carr got her
first horse, she didn't know much about what she was getting herself into.
Like many first-time horse owners, she relied on horse friends and people
with more experience for guidance on how to properly care for her new charge. She assumed that all the big names in the horse
world knew everything there was to know. All she needed to do was find out what
they knew and she'd be set.
Problem was, the more she learned, the more questions she
had. "Tell me again why horses need shoes?" "How come my horse dances
around with one saddle on his back, but not another?" "What supplements do
horses really need?" If something didn't make sense, she continued to ask
questions until she was satisfied with the answers.
This desire to understandand her interest in alternative health care for peopleled Tanii to
question conventional wisdom on how to care for horses generally, and specifically on issues of
shoeing, feed, fly systems, health
care, saddles, and training, the culmination of which led to
the manner in which she deals with her own horses and those entrusted to her care.
The importance placed on such things as organic hay, filtered water, barefoot horses, and natural
horsemanship truly puts Melody Oaks Ranch in a class by itself.
